Skilled Nursing Facilities / Nursing Homes

Level of Care

Nursing Homes provide varying degrees of nursing care in a residential setting that promotes rehabilitation and enhanced support in activities of daily living. Nursing care is provided 24 hours per day. This is the most intensive and dependent level of nursing service provided outside of a hospital.

Admissions

Residents admitted to nursing facilities do so to live a lifestyle full of meaning, activity, socialization and to avail themselves of caring individuals who provide assistance and quality service. Admissions can be temporary for those who require short-term rehabilitation or a brief recuperative period after an extended hospitalization. The structure and support provided with 24-hour nursing services enable individuals to maximize their level of independence and afford them opportunity to return home. Many residents admitted to our facilities make it their permanent residence. They are admitted from hospitals or from their homes, when living independently at home is no longer feasible. These individuals maximize their functional capabilities and strengths, while the staff assists them in coping with losses that are part of the aging process.

Accommodations

Accommodations are usually semi-private, with some private rooms available. Each room has lavatory facilities, but bathing facilities are separate, as residents usually require staff assistance. Nursing Facilities are found throughout the state.

Licensing

Nursing Facilities are licensed by the State of New Hampshire’s Bureau of Health Facilities Administration under Nursing Facility Rules and Regulations. Additionally, any facility receiving Medicaid funding must be Medicaid certified. This certification requires compliance with additional rules and regulations that are more stringent and complex than licensure, and occurs annually. A report of findings and the facility’s responses are available at every facility. Medicare funding also requires certification and compliance with additional rules and regulations as above.
